Aram V. Chobanian, MD was a long time distinguished Medical Exchange Club member, joining in 1994. He was the President Emeritus at Boston University and the Dean Emeritus at Boston University School of Medicine. In 2022, the Boston University School of Medicine was renamed in his honor courtesy of his longtime friend, and fellow Armenian, Edward Avedisian. Such was Dr. Chobanian’ s humility that he would not allow the school to be named for him unless that of Edward Avedisian was also included. He was highly respected throughout the Boston scientific community and in the field of Cardiovascular Disease. He regularly attended the MEC member meetings and below are some of the messages written by fellow members in remembering him. A dinner was held in November in Aram Chobanian’ s honor at the St. Botolph Club in Boston with many wonderful stories and anecdotes being shared.

“Aram was my Dean at BU School of Medicine for many years. He led the School and later Boston University with understated caring, humanity, and effectiveness. I came to know he was intimately involved in efforts to help Armenia in addition to his many other responsibilities. It has been said of many, “he was a gentleman and a scholar,” but this was absolutely true of Aram. I will miss him, as will all who knew him.” – Barbara Gilchrest
“Aram was a marvelous member of the HMS class of 1955. He went on to BU to study hypertension and never left. He made big contributions in that period. But his biggest contributions were his care and feeding of faculty and students. Armed with that wonderful smile and a gentle kindly mien, he didn’t need bluster to achieve goals.
